EuroPoints is the scoring system we use to rate every service on PickEurope. Each service gets a score out of 100, built from four parts: legal jurisdiction (30 points), ownership and control (25 points), Data sovereignty means your data follows the laws of the country where it is stored, and stays under that country's legal control. Learn more → (30 points), and accountability and trust (15 points). A score of 90 or above earns the “Certified European” label. The goal is not to punish American companies. It is to give a clear, consistent answer to a question that is usually buried in legal text: how European is this, really?
Frequently asked questions
What is EuroPoints?
EuroPoints is the scoring system PickEurope uses to rate services. Every service gets a score from 0 to 100. The score tries to answer one question: how European is this service, really?
The score isn't about listing where a company is headquartered. It looks at who legally controls the company, where it can be forced to hand over data, and how it treats user data and privacy.
How is a EuroPoints score calculated?
The score is built from four parts. Legal jurisdiction is worth up to 30 points. Ownership and control is worth up to 25 points. Data sovereignty is worth up to 30 points. Accountability and trust is worth up to 15 points.
These four parts add up to 100 points total. Each part looks at a different question, like where a company can legally be forced to hand over data, or who actually owns and controls it. A few small bonus points are also available, for things like being fully independent or having outside security audits.
What does a EuroPoints score of 90 or above mean?
A score of 90 or above earns PickEurope's "Certified European" label. This is the highest tier on the site. It means the service scores strongly across all four parts of the rubric, not just one.
This label isn't about punishing American companies. Some non-European companies score reasonably well too. It's simply a clear way to flag the services that are most independent from non-European legal control.
Is EuroPoints an official EU rating system?
No. EuroPoints is not run by the EU, or by any government. It is PickEurope's own scoring system, built for this website.
We built it because most of this information is normally buried in legal filings and privacy policies. EuroPoints turns that scattered information into one simple number, so people don't have to read the fine print themselves.
How often are EuroPoints scores updated?
A service's score can change whenever something about the service changes. This includes a change in ownership, a company being acquired, or new information about where the company operates.
PickEurope reviews and adds services on an ongoing basis, not on a fixed schedule. If you notice information that looks out of date, you can suggest a correction directly on the site.
