Dailymotion
One of the world's largest video platforms, founded in Paris in 2005 and owned by the French Canal+ Group. Watch and upload video without handing your viewing habits to Google.
Quick facts
Video quality and playback feel every bit as smooth as YouTube's, and the platform doesn't chase the same relentless autoplay-into-oblivion recommendation loop.
The catalogue of creators and total video volume is far smaller than YouTube's, so niche or very recent content is hit-or-miss.
Why does it score 78?
Incorporated in Paris, France – a full EU member state.
Owned by French media group Canal+, which keeps the parent inside the EU though Dailymotion isn't scored as a fully independent company.
Dailymotion runs its own video-delivery infrastructure in France rather than a third-party cloud.
GDPR-compliant, but the platform isn't open source, which keeps the accountability score modest.
