Cryptee
Zero-knowledge encrypted storage for your photos and documents, built in Estonia. The server never sees your files – a private alternative to iCloud Photos.
Quick facts
Photos and documents are encrypted client-side before they ever reach the server, so even Cryptee itself can't see your files, and the writing and photo tools feel genuinely designed rather than bolted on.
The free tier's storage is quite limited, and there's no dedicated mobile app yet – it runs as a web app on phones.
Why does it score 88?
Incorporated in Tallinn, Estonia – a full EU member state.
Independently owned and privately run, with no outside investors.
Data is hosted on European servers in Iceland as part of a mixed infrastructure setup, rather than servers Cryptee owns outright.
Partially open source (the client is public) and GDPR-compliant, with client-side encryption meaning the server never sees your plaintext files.
